Evelyn Reis

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Evelyn Mae (McCabe) Reis, on Monday, June 29, 2026. She passed peacefully, surrounded by the love and presence of her children.

Evelyn is now reunited with her cherished husband, Jack who she has missed dearly over the past 10 years. Together, they shared 63 beautiful years of marriage, building a life rooted in love, family, and lasting friendships.

Evelyn was a devoted and loving mother to Susan Reis of Goderich; Mary Anne and Peter Nichol of Listowel; Jacqueline and Ron Martin of Listowel; and John and Michelle Reis of Ottawa. She now shares a long-awaited reunion with two of her infant triplet children, James Donald and Margaret Catherine.

Evelyn was a proud and beloved “GMA,” fondly remembered for her famous “grandma scoops,” and will be lovingly missed by her grandchildren: Brett (Sarah), Mackenzie (Kelsey), Blake (Alicia), Ted, Malory (Corey), Jackson (Courtney), Maggie (Steven), Holly (Eric), and Avery. She was also a treasured great-grandmother to Wren, Lawson, Cal, Tripp, Laine, Reis, Tate, and Lennon.

Born in 1934 in Goderich, Ontario, Evelyn was the daughter of the late Dorothy (Bell) and George McCabe. She is lovingly remembered by her brothers, with whom she shared a special bond: Don and Joan McCabe of Collingwood, and Larry and Denise McCabe of Goderich. She was predeceased by in-laws Marion and Harold Warren, and Bill and Beverley Reis and Helen Drennan. She will also be fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews.

Evelyn was a strong and devoted presence in both her family and community. Deeply involved in her church, she served in many roles at Knox Presbyterian Listowel over the years, including elder, secretary, and Sunday school teacher. She formed lasting friendships through her ladies’ group which brought her great joy and companionship. She also enjoyed many happy times with her McLaren Ave. neighbours, sharing laughter and good conversations with her cherished “wine-o’’ group. Her years at Wallace Public school were marked by meaningful friendships and a deep sense of care for both colleagues and students. She would fondly remark “they went to Wallace School” reflecting her pride in that chapter of her life.

Ev and Jack deeply treasured the many friendships they cultivated over the years in both Goderich and Listowel. Above all, she loved her family deeply.  She was a devoted and enthusiastic supporter of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, taking great joy in their lives and accomplishments. She will be missed beyond measure.

A private family service will be held to celebrate and honour her life well lived. Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Listowel.

Our family are deeply and eternally grateful for the care and love mom received while at Royal Terrace, where she was treated with warmth, dignity, kindness and compassion.

In lieu of flowers, donations to honour Evelyn may be made to the Knox Presbyterian Memorial Fund, Royal Terrace Resident’s Council or to the charity of one’s choice, and may be made through Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel.
