A brand-new skatepark in Milverton officially opened on Sept. 9, and the community’s kids are over the moon about it.

The familiar sounds of minor hockey are once again filling the air at the North Huron Wescast Community Complex in Wingham. Teams have begun practicing for the 2023-24 season, with the U15 players taking the ice on Wednesday, Sept. 6.

A delegation representing the Blyth Kids Club appeared before North Huron council on Sept. 5, requesting approval to use land within the Blyth Community Centre grounds “to facilitate a proper soccer pitch.”

The PJHL pre-season game between the Mitchell Hawks and Walkerton Capitals on Friday, Sept. 8 had home town fans on the edge of their seats until the final whistle. Walkerton ended up losing in overtime.

It’s more than a dressing room. It’s a professional-level room that celebrates 50 years of hockey in Walkerton, and provides players with a clean, attractive room with a lot of amenities.

1953 was truly a banner year for Atwood’s bantam and midget boys’ baseball squads – 70 years ago this September, both teams captured their respective Ontario Baseball Association (OBA) championships.

The Listowel 15U WOBA1 Legionnaires hosted the Kincardine Cardinals in a playoff tilt at John Bell South Diamond on Aug. 31. Listowel won the postseason opener, 5-1.

The opportunity to play softball abroad doesn’t come around every day. Neither does the chance to suit up for the likes of a national squad.

Already the winners of three previous tournaments over the course of the 2023 minor baseball season, the Listowel 11U squad only had one hill left to climb to cap a campaign for the books.

Listowel’s Ted Nichol will continue his professional hockey career with the Kalamazoo Wings of the ECHL this season.

Following a 2023 preseason-opening loss to the Kincardine Bulldogs earlier in the week, the Walkerton Capitals rebounded with a statement victory over the reigning PJHL Schmalz Cup champions two nights later.
