The Wingham Minor Soccer U15 girls’ team has been having a great season, and on Aug. 21 captured the District Cup in the Tier 2 Division.

Both Emma Porter and Alex Brooks already had extensive baseball resumes prior to the 2023 U15 Girls’ Canadian Fastpitch Championship, but their recent experience on the national stage has brought their confidence levels to new heights following a top-eight showing at the tournament.

The Listowel Legionnaires were unable to utilize home-field advantage during the junior club’s year-end Midwestern Ontario Baseball League (MOSBL) tournament on Aug. 18-20.

The Listowel 18U squad was in late-season action against Hanover on Aug. 16 at John Bell South, ahead of the team’s upcoming OBA championship bid in Kingsville later this month.

While the Listowel Cyclones didn’t get the result they were hoping for in their first GOJHL preseason bout of 2023-24, the good news is there is still plenty of time to work out the kinks when the real show begins next month.

The Wroxeter Rippers (3-14) and Wingham Hitmen (12-6) clashed in Huron County Fastball League action on Sunday, Aug. 20 in Wroxeter. The Hitmen took a decisive 12-1 victory.

Senior AA hockey in the region will have a new look this coming season. On Aug. 17, the Ontario Hockey Association (OHA) announced the formation of the Ontario Elite Hockey League (OEHL), which will begin play in October.

After a successful summer competing in track and field as part of the Saugeen Track and Field team, Billie and Harley Martin of Formosa are looking forward to building on that success back at their respective universities.
