LISTOWEL - Listowel District Secondary School (LDSS) hosted the 2026 Western Ontario Secondary Schools Athletic Association (WOSSAA) AA Championship for Senior Boys Basketball on Feb. 25.

The Listowel Cyclones - 10th in the Western Conference of the Greater Ontario Hockey League (GOHL)-  carried out a 5-1 victory over the Sarnia Legionnaires (12th in the Western Conference of the GOHL) on Friday, Feb. 27 at the Steve Kerr Memorial Complex.

Players, goaltenders and staff for the Wingham Ironmen did not want to give up on their season, pushing the squad’s fourth and final game to five overtime periods before losing 5-4 to the Hanover Barons on Feb. 27.

The Provincial Junior Hockey League (PJHL) playoffs started locally over the weekend and, despite a significant point difference at the end of the season, the Walkerton Capitals are keeping pace with the Kincardine Bulldogs.

After forcing overtime and being edged out 2-1 in the first game of a playoff series with the Hanover Barons, the Wingham Ironmen were downed 6-2 by the Barons on home ice over the weekend.

The Wingham U13 Yellow hockey team held a moment of silence to honour Odin Leachman of Wingham, who passed away from cancer on Jan. 25.

The Wingham Ironmen, after posting one win and two losses over the weekend, remain in last place in the North Pollock Division of the Provincial Junior Hockey League with no further games scheduled for the season.

Despite the team falling short in its final three games of the season, the Walkerton Capitals finished out in fifth place thanks to having one more win than the trailing Mitchell Hawks.
