Surrounded by the love of her children, Nan Bayne passed away peacefully on Monday, July 20, 2026.
Born August 9, 1939, to Bob and Irene Yates in Walkerton, Ontario, Nan was very proud of her roots. Membership in the Walkerton Baptist Church, Walkerton United Church and St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church (Orillia) maintained her grounded faith throughout her life. An avid scholar and academic example for her own children, Nan completed her teacher training at Stratford College and her undergraduate studies at the University of Western Ontario. After her early career in teaching in the Oxford School Board, Nan pursued her true passion of raising three children in a home filled with faith, family and friends. Nan later continued her commitment to serving others by pursuing a second career as a social worker with the Walkerton Community Support Services. Nan’s creativity shone in her love of knitting, needlepoint, gardening and fashion. Countless adventures spent sailing the waters of Georgian Bay, the Great Lakes and the Caribbean inspired her children to love the outdoors and God’s created beauty. Nan’s second chapter in life began when she married Bruce Bayne and made Orillia her home. Together they enjoyed years of sunny Florida skies, lakeside living and love. She is remembered by Bruce’s children Kathy Parkes, Jim Bayne, Allan Bayne and their families.
Nan will be deeply missed by her sister Janice (David) McCarter of London, Ontario and her three children: Lisa (Brad) Boehmer of Moffat, Ontario, Andy (Michelle) Mosser of Greenville, South Carolina, and Tim (Kristin) Mosser of Kingston, Ontario. Loving and devoted Nana to Margaret, Sarah, Ryan, Rachel, Connor, Charlie and Emily and over the moon proud great-grandmother to Emerson and Lily.
Nan’s family is beyond grateful to the amazing staff of University Gates Schlegel Village, Waterloo. The level of care and love that she felt during her stay was always exceptional.
