The Wingham Ironmen brought their defensive game in a pair of pivotal PJHL Pollock Division matchups last weekend, picking up three out of a possible four points to maintain their hunt for fourth place in the regional standings.

PJHL action on the weekend saw the Walkerton Capitals close the month the way they started, by hosting the Mount Forest Patriots. This time there was a difference – the Caps won.

The Walkerton Capitals U11 Rep C team won the International Silver Stick tournament, held Jan. 19-21 in Forest, Ont.

The Wingham-Lucknow 86ers U11C Rep team had a successful weekend at the BAD Blazers Winter Tournament, coming home with gold after a thrilling 2-1 win over Stratford in the championship game, which needed a shootout to determine a winner. The Lucknow Lancers overcame a two-goal deficit in the second period, thanks to a natural hat trick from Trent Michie and a 53-save performance from Liam McCarthy, to earn the “W” with a 3-2 win over the Erin Outlaws on Saturday.

The Wingham Ironmen U15LL team won the Minto Mad Dogs Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 20 in Palmerston. The Ironmen started the day with a 4-2 win over Minto, followed that with a 4-2 win over Owen Sound, and a 5-2 win over TCDMHA in the championship game.

The Wingham Ironmen had a golden opportunity to pick up four valuable points in the PJHL Pollock Division standings last weekend, but ultimately couldn’t secure a single one in a pair of losses to the Mitchell Hawks and Fergus Whalers.

The Listowel Cyclones exploded for a five-goal third period to rally from a 3-1 deficit on Sunday afternoon at the Steve Kerr Memorial Complex, taking a 6-4 decision over the Stratford Warriors.

With only 10 games remaining in the 2023-24 PJHL campaign, the Walkerton Capitals have some heavy lifting ahead of them if the junior club hopes to secure a top-four spot in the Pollock Division standings.

The Durham Thundercats saw their modest two-game win streak halted on the weekend, losing a pair of Ontario Elite Hockey League games to Ripley and Seaforth.

The 39th annual Bruce Williams Memorial Fun Days Jamboree went off without a hitch last weekend, despite the snowy weather. Thirty-six teams from across the region braved the cold to travel to the Steve Kerr Memorial Complex in Listowel.
