PERTH COUNTY – Seven impaired driving charges laid over the Civic Holiday long weekend are raising concerns for Perth County OPP, as police say impaired driving continues to be a persistent problem on local roads.

LISTOWEL – North Perth council decided to stray slightly from procedure to reconsider the location of Listowel’s next pool. Council had previously selected John Bell South baseball diamond as the location in 2024.

HURON/PERTH – Huron Perth Public Health staff will take a closer look at technology use and its health impacts following a wide-ranging discussion by the board of health about cellphones, social media and screen time among youth.

HOWICK – An additional $43,000 (plus unrecoverable HST) from the fire department reserve has been approved by council here for the purchase of a used pumper-tanker at its Sept. 15 meeting.

LISTOWEL – A divided North Perth council selected to proceed with a commemorative veterans crosswalk, despite staff’s recommendation that the implementation could interfere with the existing construction on Elizabeth Street East, as well as the need for a policy to implement specialized crosswalks.

LISTOWEL – The Terry Fox Run not only returned to Listowel on Sept. 20, but also surpassed its fundraising goal.

WINGHAM – The Wingham Ironmen played their first at-home regular-season game on Sept. 19 at the North Huron Wescast Community Centre against the Hanover Barons.

Maitland Conservation, also known as The Maitland Valley Conservation Authority, celebrated its 75th anniversary on Sunday, Sept. 13 in Brussels with River Fest. Originally scheduled last month, the event was pushed due to inclement weather.
