John Adams Burnside of Walkerton passed away peacefully on Monday, October 10, 2022, at South Bruce Grey Health Centre, Walkerton, at the age of 88. He will be dearly missed by his wife Rosalyn of 63 years. John will be remembered by his sisters-in-law Helen Burnside, Harriet Goetz, Lia Buck, nephews Vincent (Anne) Goetz, Mark Schumacher, Dan Schumacher, Jeff (Rhonda) Schumacher, and niece Lou Anne Goetz Baker (Lonnie). John is predeceased by his brother Wilbert, brothers-in-law Matthew Schumacher, Allan Goetz, and his parents John and Margaret (nee Hall) Burnside.
John started in 1953 at the National Carbon Company in Walkerton, commuting from Kincardine where he was raised, until he met Rosalyn, who also worked there, and moved to Walkerton in 1959 after they were married. Together they saw many changes as National Carbon Company became Union Carbide, then Energizer Canada. Before retirement they started travelling to Florida, where they spent many of their winters there after retirement. John loved sports, hockey, baseball, and tennis in his younger years, then he and Rosalyn together loved golf and would go together on a regular basis.
Friends and relatives were invited for visitation from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at Cameron’s in Walkerton. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at Sacred Heart Church, Walkerton. Fr. Leszek Szczygiel officiating.
Cremation has taken place and interment in Calvary Cemetery, Walkerton.
