Mervyn Wenzel

Mervyn Emmerson Wenzel of Palmerston, and formerly of Wallace Township, passed away peacefully at Royal Terrace, Palmerston, on Saturday, May 23, 2026, in his 100th year.

Husband of the late Fran Fotheringham (2024).

Brother of Mildred Rivers of Woodstock, and Bernice Askett of Listowel.  Cherished and missed by his nieces and nephews, Calvin (Karen), Carol (Raymond), Lorraine (Richard), Gereld, Ron (Carol), Murray, Bruce (Diane), Glen (Erma), Janice (Dan), Kevin, Gail (Rick), Brian (Jacquie), Karen (Mike) Gary (Lori), and Allan, and by their families.

Fondly remembered also by Fran’s family.

Predeceased by parents Addison & Ella (Wolfe) Wenzel, siblings Marguerite (Roy) Hartung, Ken (Norma) Wenzel, Orville Wenzel, Earl Wenzel, Gladys (Percy) Gedcke, siblings-in-law Bill Rivers and Elwin Askett, niece Marie Woodliffe, and by his great-nephew Joseph.

Mervyn was born in Wallace Township on July 21, 1926.  He took over the family’s dairy farm and farmed in the late 1980s.  After retiring, he met and married Fran Fotheringham.  Mervyn moved to the Fotheringham farm where Fran had a hard time keeping him out of the barns and helping with chores.

Mervyn and Fran were avid golfers and curlers.  When they retired to Mary Street in Palmerston, Mervyn would be found walking to the post office each day.   

Visitation was held at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel, on Saturday, May 30, 2026 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., interment followed in Zion United Church Cemetery, Wallace Township.
