WOAA cancels remainder of regular season for minor, senior hockey

Playoffs to begin immediately when play resumes

WINGHAM – The Western Ontario Athletic Association (WOAA) has announced the cancellation of the remainder of the regular season for minor hockey and the Senior “AA” league.

In an email to minor hockey coaches last week, the WOAA stated their intention is to hold a Zoom meeting on Jan. 27, when current provincial COVID-19 restrictions are expected to be lifted, to discuss the playoff format and groupings.

The Senior “AA” league announced the playoff match ups on Jan. 12. Due to the fact that most teams had not played the same amount of games, teams were ranked based on points percentage.

The top eight teams will play in the “AA” playoffs, with the bottom five teams playing in the “A” playoffs.

Locally, the Lucknow Lancers finished 10th with a points percentage of 33.33, and will take on the Shallow Lake Crushers (11th, 32.14 points percentage) in the “A” semifinals.

The Milverton 4-Wheel Drives finished in 13th with a 26.92 points percentage, and will take on Creemore (12th, 29.41 points percentage) in the quarterfinals of the “A” playoffs. The winner of that series will take on Petrolia (ninth, 38.46 points percentage) in the semis.

Senior league playoff action is tentatively scheduled to begin the weekend of Feb. 4-6.
