WALKERTON – The season is over for minor hockey players in Walkerton.
It was announced on Jan. 20 that Walkerton Minor Hockey’s executive have made the decision to end the 2020-21 season.
“WMH has determined that with the stay-at-home order that is in effect until Feb. 11, 2021, it is in the best interest of everyone to shut down the remainder of the season,” reads a statement on the Walkerton Minor Hockey website.
Walkerton Minor Hockey was one of the first organizations to return to play in September, however like the rest of Ontario, they were forced to stop play in December when the province-wide lockdown was put in place.
“This has been a very trying and difficult year to plan and execute,” wrote the organization in a Facebook post.
“We are saddened to shut down the season.”
Walkerton Minor Hockey will be issuing refunds to members in the coming weeks and ask that members be patient as they clear the budget and follow the proper procedures to execute a mass refund.
“Again, a big thank you to everyone who helped out and played a part in making the season somewhat possible.”
