The Walkerton Legion is still here

Despite Legion branches across the province being closed due to the current COVID directives, our Service Officers are still available to help. If you know a veteran or family member in need, Walkerton Legion, like all other branches, has a Branch Service Officer as a first point of contact and referral to Ontario Command Service Officers. Command Service Officers are there to provide information and advice on programs available through Veterans Affairs and Benevolent Funds. Our Command Service Officer in London can also help with every stage of claims and appeals to VAC, whether you are a Legion member or not. Their assistance is free of charge, confidential, and mandated through federal legislation. To contact the Branch Service Officer in Walkerton call 519-507-1547

As well, in each edition of the LEGION magazine is a column for veterans called, “Serving You,” with past articles available online at https://legionmagazine.com/en/category/our-veterans/serving-you/.

Ontario Command will be publishing its ninth Military Service Recognition Book honouring Ontario veterans and those still serving in our Armed Forces. A veteran or family member can submit a photo and up to 200 words about any male or female veteran who lived, or is living, in Ontario. The veteran does not need to be a member of the Legion. Check Ontario Command at www.on.legion.ca for the 242-page master index of veterans who have already been included. You can also read what has been printed in that edition. That site also has a downloadable form to complete and submit to:

Did you know?

Article 419 of the Criminal Code of Canada prohibits “the wearing of orders, decorations and medals by anyone other than the individual who was awarded the honour.”

The Royal Canadian Legion encourages you to have medals suitably mounted and framed, and hung in a prominent place of honour.

In memory of Thomas Babcock, born Jan. 17, 1895. Babcock lived on Lot 22, Concession 2 of Greenock Township and was killed in action at Rouen, France on Sept. 28, 1916.

Lest We Forget.
