Rae kicks off provincial election campaign

LISTOWEL – Matthew Rae, Progressive Conservative candidate for Perth-Wellington, officially kicked off his 2022 provincial election campaign at Knapp’s in Listowel on April 19.

“Our riding deserves someone who understands our values and cares about our rural communities,” said Rae. “I will be ready on day one to fight for our rural communities and be their voice at Queen’s Park.”

To kick off the campaign, Rae stopped to buy shoes in Listowel at Knapp’s Shoes & Clothing, a family-owned business since 1962.

“It is great to be here at Knapp’s to buy a new pair of running shoes for this spring’s provincial election,” said Rae. “Since winning the PC nomination, I’ve been knocking on doors and meeting with voters across the riding. To ensure I can get to every door, I am going to need a high-quality pair of shoes from a trusted local business.”

Owner Corey McLeod appreciated Rae’s message: “The pandemic has been especially difficult for so many stores,” McLeod said. “Matthew recognizes the importance of businesses like ours; companies with deep roots in our communities. I know he’ll do a great job of representing us at Queen’s Park.”

“The No. 1 issue I hear at the door is affordability. Our PC government is taking action to bring costs down for families. We are cutting the gas tax, keeping hydro prices under control and scrapping the license plate sticker renewal fees,” added Rae. “We are laser-focused on making life more affordable for the people of Perth-Wellington and Ontario.”

Rae grew up on his family’s dairy farm north of Harriston. He works for an education company and is a first-time homeowner in Mitchell.

Rae’s campaign will be opening offices in both Perth and Wellington counties.
