PERTH-WELLINGTON – Perth-Wellington MPP Randy Pettapiece issued a statement Thursday morning in response to the current COVID-19 outbreaks at two Caressant Care locations in his riding.
As of Jan. 20, Caressant Care Listowel currently has 92 staff/resident cases split between retirement (25 residents, eight staff) and long-term care (40 residents, 19 staff). Caressant Care Arthur has 93 cases split between retirement (25 residents, 12 staff) and long-term care (32 residents, 24 staff).
Five deaths have been reported by public health at the Arthur location, and three at the Listowel location.
“The outbreaks at Caressant Care Arthur and Caressant Care Listowel are very concerning. I was very sad to hear about the loss of life. I am also thinking of the residents and staff who are sick and their families,” said Pettapiece in his statement.
“I have been in touch with officials leading the response in both homes. My staff and I have spoken to families with loved ones in the affected homes. I have offered to do whatever I can to support them and the response underway.”
Pettapiece commended Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health, Huron Perth Public Health, local hospital officials and staff, and Caressant Care staff on continuing “to do exceptional work under difficult circumstances.”
“To make sure the province fully understands the seriousness of this situation, I have written to the Minister of Long-Term Care and the Minister of Seniors and Accessibility. I have urged them to make available every necessary resource to address the ongoing situation in these homes,” added Pettapiece.
“I will continue to do everything I can to support these homes and all homes in Perth-Wellington.”
