Perth County OPP seeking applicants for Citizen’s Police Academy

Academy will be hosted in West Perth this fall

PERTH COUNTY – The Perth County OPP is looking for community-minded individuals interested in joining a Citizen’s Police Academy this fall in the Municipality of West Perth.

The academy is an opportunity for citizens to learn about policing. Chosen participants will hear presentations from members in specialty units within the organization such as: Crime, Community Street Crime Unit, K9 Services, Emergency Response Team (ERT), Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), Urban Search and Rescue/CBRNE Response Team, In-Service Training, and many others.

Each session is an interactive, information-sharing evening, similar to a night school class. When the Academy is complete, participants will have a better understanding of the challenges and responsibilities that members of the OPP face every day.

The OPP is seeking mature, motivated and community-minded individuals who are a minimum age of 18 years and represent Perth County’s diverse communities.

The program is scheduled to run every Tuesday for nine weeks, beginning on Sept. 12 through to Nov. 14, from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. (excluding Tuesday, Oct. 31) The deadline to submit applications is Friday, Aug. 18.

Applications are available at the front counter of the three Perth County OPP detachments – North Perth at 330 Wallace Ave. N., Listowel; West Perth at 132 St. George St., Mitchell; and Sebringville at 380 Huron Rd. Completed applications must be submitted at the same location.

Participants must pass a security check prior to selection. A valid photo identification is also required, which should be attached to the application.
