LISTOWEL – It appears that ‘porch pirates’ have struck in Listowel.
On Jan. 7, North Perth OPP received a complaint from a Listowel resident that a package had been stolen from their front porch. According to the notice from the delivery company, the package was dropped off shortly after 2 p.m.
Police are warning residents that thieves will target parcels left at someone’s home when they are not available to accept them.
The OPP recommends that anyone placing an order online to make arrangements to be home when the package is delivered, if possible. If this is not an option, police suggest having a friend or a trusted neighbour be around to accept the delivery or pick it up for safekeeping.
Police also suggest installing a motion-detecting security camera that records video.
Police also warn that even though the holiday season has concluded, thieves will take advantage of the opportunity to steal a package from a front porch.
Police suggest that if you are a victim of a parcel theft, call the OPP and the shipping company. Witnesses of a theft or suspicious activity are asked to call police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or submit a secure web-tip at http://hc-cs.ca where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward up to $2,000.
