OPP lay murder charges in investigation of Brussels deaths

HURON EAST – Members from the Huron County OPP Crime Unit have laid murder charges in connection with two suspicious deaths last week near Brussels.

On March 30, at approximately 4 p.m., Huron County OPP and Huron County Paramedic Services responded to a residence on Graham Road just south of Brussels, to complete a well-being check on the occupants and located two deceased parties on the property.

Officers reported that the deceased adult female was located inside the home and a deceased adult male on the property.

The deceased have been identified as Beverly Stevenson, 69, and Darwin Ducharme, 65, both residents of Huron East.

On Friday, April 1, Huron County OPP with the assistance of OPP Tactics & Rescue Unit (TRU), OPP West Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), and the OPP Regional Support Team (RST) arrested a family member in connection with their deaths.

Jadin Ducharme, 18, from Morris-Turnberry has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder contrary to section 235(1) of the Criminal Code and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.

The accused remains in custody with a court appearance scheduled for April 6, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Goderich.

This incident is being investigated by the Huron County OPP Crime Unit, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) and in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario.
