Stella had a dream to become a teacher so she went to Winnipeg at the age of 15 to finish high school and attend normal school. When she was 17, she taught in a one room country school. It was at that time she met a young soldier, Ira. They married when she was 18 and moved to Ontario a few years later where they raised four children.
She kept a large garden and the pantry and freezer were always full of the fruits of her labour. Stella also taught Sunday school, volunteered at school, teaching children to read, and was a long-time member of Listowel Bible chapel.
Stella’s family is grateful for the wonderful nurses on the 7th floor at WRHN (St Mary’s Hospital, Kitchener), and send a special thank you to the staff at St Jacob’s place who provided such a caring environment for Mom over the past year.
The funeral service was held at Knox Presbyterian Church, Listowel, on Friday, October 2, 2026 at 2:00 p.m., with visitation one hour prior and reception followed. The funeral was livestreamed and the link available on the funeral home website.
