Mary Joan (Jo) Waring, née Ptolemy, passed away peacefully on the morning of May 4, 2026.
Jo was born in Toronto on April 16, 1937, to Bertha (Eccie) Eccleston and William Hector Ptolemy. She spent her early years in Toronto before moving to Listowel, Ontario, where she met the love of her life, Harvey Howes Waring. They were married on August 2, 1958, beginning a life together defined by deep love, happiness, and remarkable longevity.
Jo was no shrinking violet, known for her sharp wit and vibrant spirit. She cherished her family, especially her grandchildren and took great joy in travelling with her husband and their many friends over the years. Jo was predeceased by her beloved husband of more than 61 years, Harvey, and by Angelo Ghicas, her son’s spouse of 20 years. She is lovingly remembered by her three children: John Waring; Keeley Carl (Joe); and Melanie Waring-Chapman (Bill). She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Meghan, Alex, and Kate, who were fortunate to have a devoted and loving Nana well into their adult lives. They carry with them countless treasured memories.
A Celebration of Jo’s life will be held on Saturday, June 27, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Turner & Porter, Peel Chapel, 2180 Hurontario Street, Mississauga, Ontario.
