Lorne William Reis passed away peacefully, but unexpectedly, at Ritz Lutheran Villa, Mitchell, on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, in his 84th year.
Born on June 23, 1943, in Elma Township, Lorne lived a life rooted in family, farming, and the community he loved. On September 16, 1967, he married the love of his life, Linda (Mogk) Reis, and together they shared nearly 59 years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and farming together.
Lorne was a cherished and loving husband to Linda and a devoted father and grandfather. He will be forever loved and deeply missed by his daughter Colleen Maunder and her husband Andy, and their children, Jensen and Jaiden; his daughter Tammy Reis and her partner Dave Brook; and by his daughter-in-law Deena Reis-Binne (Scott) and granddaughter Libby. Lorne was predeceased by his beloved son, Chad Reis, on October 19, 2013, a loss that remained forever in his heart.
He is lovingly remembered by his sisters, Violet Williams, Irene (Boyd) Zehr, Edna (Phil) Evans, Marion (Pan) Haritakis, Kelly (Jim) Presley, and Annette Reis; by his brother, Bob Reis (Brenda); his sister-in-law, Kathy Scott (Don); his brother-in-law, Glen Francis; and by his many nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
Lorne was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Isabell (Jacobs) Reis; his brother-in-law, Brian Williams; and his sister-in-law, Carol Francis.
A lifelong dairy farmer in the Milverton area, Lorne dedicated his life to caring for his cattle and horses. His love for horses was unmatched, and some of his happiest days were spent driving horses, giving sleigh rides, horseback trail riding with his family, creating memories that will be treasured forever. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling, and simply taking in the beauty of the countryside.
Lorne was a proud member of the Milverton Rod and Gun Club, Snowmobile Club and Mailand Valley Trailblazers. He generously volunteered many years assisting with the horses for the Milverton Fair. He believed in the value of community and was always willing to lend a helping hand.
Above all else, Lorne cherished his family. Whether at home or being affectionately “dragged” along on family adventures from the East Coast to the West Coast, he treasured every moment spent with those he loved. Although Alzheimer’s disease gradually took many of his memories, it never diminished his wonderful sense of humour. His fooling nature, playful jokes, and infectious smile remained with him until the very end, and it is this joyful spirit that so many will fondly remember.
Family and friends were invited to visit with the Reis family at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 7 Spencer Street, Milverton, on Monday, August 3, 2026, from 1:00–4:00 p.m. and 6:00–8:00 p.m.
A funeral service celebrating Lorne’s life was held at the MAC (Agricultural Hall), Milverton, on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Pastor Bonnie Schelter Brown. Interment followed at Greenwood Cemetery, Milverton.
As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Ritz Lutheran Villa Music Therapy Program or to the Alzheimer Society.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of Ritz Lutheran Villa for the exceptional care, kindness, and dignity shown to Lorne throughout his time there.
Lorne’s legacy of hard work, love of the land, devotion to his family, and gift for making others laugh will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever loved.
