At Listowel Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, October 7th, 2026, Jean Marilyn (Martin) Young of Listowel and formerly of Wingham passed away surrounded by her family at the age of 83.
Devoted wife of Jim Young and loving mother of Marty & Joanne, Jamie & Cheryl, Karen (d.[2022]), Liane & Paul. Cherished grandma of Kayla, Erica, Bryan and Jodi, Jordan and Olivia, Tyler and Kaitlin, Brody and Brittany, Rebecca and Cody. Great-grandma of Aubree, Logan, Callum, Ryatt, Trinity, Abigayle, Whitney and Winston.
Sister of Marlene & Bob Struthers, Wayne & the late Carmen Martin, Linda & Don Wall, John Martin & Rosemary Foran, Dan & Jen Martin. Sister-in-law of William (d.[2025]), Ken, Don & Jane (d.[2024]) and Russell Young.
Jean played a foundational role in building Town and Country Support Services. She worked tirelessly for 34 years to improve the lives of citizens throughout Huron and Perth Counties.
Jean loved to travel. She enjoyed many adventures, with Jim by her side. She explored the United States, Mexico, Hawaii, Europe and the British Isles, often touring with friends. Although her favourite vacations were with her grandchildren, roaming the parks of Disney World.
Jean built her life around her family, friends and community.
A celebration of Jean’s life, will be held at the Knox Presbyterian Church Main Hall, Listowel on Saturday, October 24th from 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm, with words of remembrance at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Listowel Hospital Foundation (Palliative Care Unit) would be appreciated.
