James Richard Turpin of Listowel passed away at St. Mary’s Hospital, Kitchener on Monday, February 5, 2024, in his 73rd year.
Husband of Ruth (Regnault) Turpin. Father of Shawn & Stephanie Turpin of Camp Lejeune, NC, Scott & Jessica Turpin of Halifax, NS, Sonya & Niek van Stee of Moorefield, Sheila & Nathan Gerbrandt of Listowel, Sarah & Matthew Leak of Birmingham, AL, Shannon Turpin of St. Catharines, and Seth & Naomi Turpin of Norway. Grandfather of Grace, Micah, Faith, Daniel, Joy, and Jonas. Brother of Bob & Gail Turpin of London, Elaine & Paul Clerc of Winnipeg, MB, and Ron & Thea Turpin of Strathroy. Predeceased by his parents Arthur & Alvina (Lockett) Turpin.
James served as a missionary pastor in Norway for 44 years. He loved people and became instant friends with everyone he met. His passion was the gospel, which continues to be felt around the world through people of 68 different nationalities who attended his church while in Norway.
Visitation was held at Listowel Baptist Church on Friday, February 9 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., where the funeral service was held on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. The service was live-streamed, and the link is available on the funeral home website.
Interment was in Fairview Cemetery, Listowel.
Memorial donations will go to Missionary Chris Shull in Greenland (payable to Faithway Baptist Church), and may be made through the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel.
