Anna Gertrude O’Malley (née Fischer), of Walkerton and formerly of Culross Township, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, at South Bruce Grey Health Centre, Walkerton, on Friday, July 24, 2026, in her 103rd year.
Born on June 22, 1924, in Culross Township, Anna lived a remarkable life rooted in faith, family, hard work, and service to others. A devoted Catholic throughout her life, she was a faithful parishioner and a proud member of the Catholic Women’s League for over 70 years. Her unwavering faith guided her through life’s joys and challenges and was a source of strength for all who knew her.
In 1942, Anna married Thomas Peter “T.P.” O’Malley. Together they raised twelve children, instilling in each of them the values of kindness, perseverance, and the importance of family.
Anna was a hardworking and resilient woman who spent 25 years employed at the Campbell’s Soup factory in Listowel. She approached every task with determination and pride, setting an enduring example through her tireless work ethic and unwavering commitment to her family.
She found great joy in life’s simple pleasures. Anna loved tending her garden, reading a good book, playing cards with family and friends, travelling, and the occasional trip to the casino. Above all else, she treasured time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her strength, positive outlook, generous spirit, and ability to put family first made her a cherished role model whose influence will continue for generations.
She was the devoted mother of Margaret Strong (John) of Waterloo, Joan O’Malley of Montreal, Dorothy Lesage (Phillip) of Orangeville, John O’Malley (Sharron) of Waterloo, Bill O’Malley (Jane) of Torrance, Patrick O’Malley (Nancy) of Sarnia, Kevin O’Malley (Phylis) of Guelph, and Larry O’Malley (Connie) of St. Catharines, and loving mother-in-law of Norma O’Malley of Mississauga.
Cherished Grandma will be lovingly remembered by her 22 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
She is fondly remembered by her sisters, Alice MacTavish and Bernice Straicher, and by her many nieces and nephews.
Anna was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Peter (T.P.) O’Malley (1980); her beloved children, Paul O’Malley (1986), Anita O’Malley (1988), Dennis O’Malley (2004), and Michael O’Malley (2014); her great-grandson, Darhrian Scharschmidt (2002); her parents, Michael and Ludwina (née Kunkel) Fischer; her brothers, Bob Fischer and Michael Fischer; and her sisters, Rose Strauss, Dorothy Lindsay, Bea Edgar, Helen Fischer, and Magdelin Fischer.
Anna leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, resilience, and devotion. She taught those around her that strength is found in kindness, that hard work builds character, and that family is life’s greatest blessing. Her wisdom, gentle guidance, and steadfast love will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Rest in peace, Mom. You lived well, you loved deeply, and you laughed often. Your love will remain with us forever. We all love you and will miss you always.
Visitation took place at Tiffin Funeral Home, Teeswater, on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated from Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Teeswater, on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., with interment to follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
