Numbers still low in Grey-Bruce but rising across the province

GREY-BRUCE – As of Aug. 22, the Grey Bruce Health Unit reported there were four new cases – one each in Grey Highlands, Blue Mountains, Meaford and West Grey. Over the weekend, cases were also reported in Owen Sound, Saugeen Shores, Hanover and Arran-Elderslie.

At present there are 33 active cases and 46 high-risk contacts.

Four local people are hospitalized in Grey-Bruce with COVID-19, and one local person was transferred to a hospital outside the area.

Vaccination clinics continue to be held, targeting those not yet vaccinated. The local health unit will be providing the Pfizer vaccine to children born in 2009 – it’s no longer necessary to wait for their 12th birthday.

Clinics are being held at a variety of locations – for details, see the health unit’s website. Locally, there will be a clinic at the Elmwood Community Centre on Thursday, Aug. 26 from 3-6 p.m.

While the numbers locally are under control at the moment, provincewide it’s a different story. As of Aug. 23, there were 639 new cases. While down from 722 new cases reported Sunday, it’s still higher than a week ago. Medical authorities say the people who are most vulnerable are the unvaccinated. The total number of active cases in the province now stands at over 5,000.
