North Perth resident accused of assaulting police while in custody

PERTH COUNTY – A North Perth resident is facing multiple charges after allegedly assaulting police while in custody.

Police were contacted on Sept. 15 just after 8:30 a.m. after someone kicked and damaged a parked vehicle on Main Street East in Listowel. Police arrested the suspect nearby.

Perth County OPP, in a press release, stated the suspect was also involved in a mischief incident at a residence the previous day, and was also arrested concerning that incident.

The accused was taken to the Perth County OPP detachment in Perth East. Police say the accused became combative and assaulted two OPP officers.

One officer sustained minor injuries, while the other was not injured.

Police also allege that the accused committed a mischief in the cell area of the detachment, resulting in an additional charge.

Charged is 38-year-old Ryanal Devon Erb of North Perth. Erb has been charged with three counts of mischief over $5,000, eight counts of failing to comply with probation, and two counts of assault police officer.

Erb was held in custody for a bail hearing.
