Meulensteen Tire marks 35 years of local service

Although the exterior of the business may have changed over the last 35 years, Meulensteen Tire and Auto Service’s drive to provide honest and reliable vehicle service across the personal, agricultural and commercial sectors has remained the same since the day Herb and Frank Meulensteen first opened its doors on Nov. 1, 1984.

Long-time Listowel business has always taken pride in putting the customer first

LISTOWEL – It goes without saying that we wouldn’t be able to get from A to B without reliable tires on our vehicles to take us there. Perhaps just as important is the reliable service and knowledge required to keep everything running smoothly.

Meulensteen Tire and Auto Service has been providing those very accommodations for 35 years. First opened on Nov. 1, 1984 by brothers Herb and Frank Meulensteen, the business remains in family hands to this day, with Herb’s son, Steve, now running the show at Meulensteen Tire’s long-time location at 220 Mitchell Rd. S. in Listowel’s west end.

“It was tire-focused from the beginning, but we’ve always offered full automotive service as well,” says Steve, who took sole ownership of the business earlier this year. Previously, he and his brother Dave jointly operated Meulensteen Tire after purchasing it from their father in 2012.

“The idea from the beginning was to be a tire specialist in the area, focused on farm tires specifically. That was their main focus when they started.”

Over the years, Meulensteen Tire grew to include tire service of all types (personal, agricultural and commercial), and later added a wholesale division to provide sales throughout midwestern Ontario. In addition to specializing in vehicle tires, and automotive maintenance and repairs, the business carries a line of vehicle accessories, and its staff of 12 also provides detailing and washing services.

“We do everything,” said Meulensteen. “Unless it’s a warranty recall, we can do everything. It’s a family-run business, and the service we provide is very important.”

Many of Meulensteen Tire’s staff complement are long-time employees, two of which have worked at the business for 25 years. Original owner Herb Meulensteen himself remains a dedicated full-time employee after stepping back from ownership; he currently heads the agricultural tire department.

“It’s another key to why we’ve lasted this long,” said Steve Meulensteen of his dedicated employees.

Meulensteen Tire is also no stranger to pitching in to making its community stronger and more vibrant.

For the past several years it has run the Hockey Helpers program, which compensates the full cost of local tyke-aged (Initiation Program) players’ registration with credit at the business. Meulensteen Tire is also an annual major sponsor of Paddyfest, and has provided financial contributions to such local projects as the building of the Steve Kerr Memorial Complex.

Truly with everything Meulensteen Tire and Auto Service does – whether it be repairs to a vehicle or making a charitable contribution – it does it with honesty, reliability and with the best interest of its customers, and community, at heart.

“You can always count on getting good honest and reliable service here,” said Meulensteen. “That’s always been the most important thing for me, for customers to be able to trust us with their vehicles – whether it’s for repairs, new tires or anything else – and that they’re being looked after properly the right way.”
