Meridian makes donation to local music program

WALKERTON – Meridian Credit Union has donated $250 to Sistema Walkerton through its Good Neighbour Program.

“A very warm thank you to Meridian for the generous donation to Sistema Walkerton,” said Robin Zettel, executive director of Sistema Walkerton. “Our program continues to grow on the foundation of community support.”

On Jan. 20, representatives from the local branch visited Sistema Walkerton to meet the students and listen in on the lesson.

“It’s our pleasure to support this program,” said Meridian Walkerton branch manager Jackie Thomson. “Seeing the students smiling and listening to all of their hard work was something special – we’re fortunate to have Sistema Walkerton running in our community.”

Sistema Walkerton is a registered non-profit run entirely by volunteers and funded through grants, sponsorships and donations. The program is designed to reduce barriers for students seeking professional violin lessons. It is entirely free for students who use community violins for the duration of the school year. Aside from lessons twice a week, the program also offers a light snack.

Anyone interested in volunteering or donating to the program can reach out by email at sistemawalkerton@gmail.com or through Facebook.
