McPherson brothers take corn hole tournament title

Wingham Sportsmen’s Association hosted 16-team event on July 2

WINGHAM – On July 2, the Wingham Sportsmen’s Association hosted what it hopes to be the first of many corn hole tournaments.

Sixteen teams played off for the top four positions, competing in 31 matches on four courts over the course of the day.

Brothers Dan and Scott McPherson took the top honors in a nail biter championship set, taking three games to come to the decision. The McPhersons took the deciding game 21-16.  Also making the podium that day were Dylon and Bryanna Cobean taking second place, while Devin Connor and Dennis Wintemute took third place honors. Brett Jarvis and David Wilson closed out the winners with fourth place.

The club also hosted a fundraiser barbecue that day, and would like to thank everyone that was able to take time from their busy Canada Day weekend to come out and support. The club will use the money raised that day to complete some needed upgrades to its facility, as well as put funds towards continuing its support to local health care, community groups, schools and local sports.

The Wingham Sportsmen would lastly like to thank the sponsors for their help to put this event on: Maclean’s Ales Inc., Greens Meat Market and Abattoir, Wingham Hitman Fastball Club and 2nd Floor Image Works.

The club is already working on plans for the next event and hope to see you there.
