Local dancers compete at North American Irish Dance Championships

MONTREAL, QUEBEC – Three Walkerton dancers recently returned from competing at the North American Irish Dance Championships in Montreal.

The competition, which took place from July 1-6, featured more than 4,000 dancers from across the world.

Walkerton’s Avery McGregor, Madalynn McGregor and Kate Bester all competed in the Under 15 Open Championship.

Avery was in the 15A group with more than 150 dancers. She had three solid rounds, recalled and placed 43rd in this group. This is her highest finish thus far at this competition.

Madalynn and Kate competed in the 15B group, which also featured more than 150 dancers.

Madalynn received her first recall, performed three solid rounds and placed 63rd in this group.

This was Kate’s first time qualifying for the North American Championships. She was not far off from recalling and was very happy with her results.

“They all danced beautifully on the stage and represented Walkerton and the Miller School of Irish Dance in Orangeville very well,” stated coach Maureen Miller. “These girls attend classes regularly and put in countless hours of work in the studios and at home. Congratulations on your continued success.”
