LISTOWEL – The Listowel Memorial Hospital continues efforts to recover from significant water damage.
Hospital officials state that 90 per cent of the ground floor was flooded Monday. The flood was caused by a four-inch water main breaking under the floor of the hospital in the middle of the night. This water main services some of the fire hose cabinets in the hospital.
The laboratory, physiotherapy, environmental services, material storage, maintenance, kitchen, cafeteria, Foundation, registration, Auxiliary, diagnostic imaging, health records, IT office and emergency departments were all impacted.
“We are currently working with our insurer and a restoration company to develop a plan and timeline for restoration,” stated hospital officials in a press release on Wednesday.
The hospital continues to operate a fully functioning emergency department.
“Throughout the restoration, our situation may vary day-to-day,” stated the hospital.
“We may have less space to work in or have departments relocated. At times, this will result in a longer wait or delays to care.”
The COVID-19 testing centre remains operational within the hospital. To book a COVID test call 519-292-2133 between 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., Monday – Friday.
Patient caregivers are encouraged to continue to participate in the care of their loved ones. The hospital’s visiting policies have not changed.
“We appreciate our community’s patience and understanding as we work to return the Listowel Memorial Hospital to normal.”
