‘Where is the respect and compassion?’

To the editor,

An article, entitled “The power of His resurrection,” (Banner, April 21) dismisses the Judaism of St. Paul as follows: “But compared to knowing Christ it was nothing. Literally rubbish!”

This dismissal of, and even contempt for, other religions and cultures is unfortunately common in fundamentalist Christianity. Could it not underlie the horrific history of anti-Semitism and even the sorry record of the Residential Schools that were imposed on the Indigenous Peoples?

Where is the respect and compassion for all human beings that pervades the gospel stories of Jesus?
