Walkerton and District Food Bank thanks volunteers

To the editor,

During Volunteer Appreciation Week, we thank our volunteers, without whom we would not be able to help people in need of food.

Our Food Bank has been open for 31 years, with three of our volunteers being with us all this time. We have 38 volunteers throughout the year, with others joining us as Christmastime helping to pack and distribute hampers, assist at the CKNX Relief Truck Food Drive, etc. The Optimist Club volunteers to gather, prepare and distribute Christmas gifts. In 2021, with everyone’s help, we served 208 households, 60 of which were first-time recipients. In 1,437 visits, with helped 316 adults and 177 children/youth. At Christmas, 132 households registered for hampers with 52 families requesting gifts for 115 children/youth. This provided approximately 3,600 volunteer hours with 70,000 pounds of product given.

Volunteers are the backbone of so many organizations, and we say thank you to those who help us “feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty.”

Gratefully,

Board of Directors
