Voting results should be consistent

To the editor,

I’d like to thank Chris Palmer for his letter in the July 13 issue of the Herald-Times (“Radioactive again”). His letter does a very good job of capturing the undertakings regarding the proposed DGR (deep geological repository). Thank you.

It seems that a vote should be undertaken by a citizens group. The citizens group would not “operate in secret,” would create voting stations, welcome citizens from Bruce and adjoining counties to cast a ballot (only one ballot per citizen), total up the outcome, and then publish the results.

Transparent and simple.

If less than 50 per cent is enough to elect councillors, MPPs and MPs, then less than 50 per cent of those who vote to rid ourselves of the Nuclear Waste Management Organization should also carry the day.
