Pillaging of a trail

To the editor,

Did anyone realize that this would be the result of the Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority and the Town of Hanover allowing the building of residential homes close to one of the town’s advertised attractions?

This section of trail pictured below is in the general area of the soccer park and the Bruce-Grey Catholic District School Board in Hanover.

Apparently, homeowners will have their property go right to the river’s edge.

The land will be filled, mud and run-off will go straight into the river, the springs and marshy areas will be lost. Trees will be cut by homeowners to allow access to the river, meaning more destruction of a wonderful asset.

In addition, town residents will no longer have access to the river as it will be private land.  Where will the trail go? Probably through the streets of the subdivision. Difficult to snowshoe and ski in the winter!

This appears to be a very short-sighted decision of SVCA, which used to stand for conservation of land and waterways.
