‘Does nobody care anymore?’

To the editor,

When it comes to pleasing seniors, it would appear that certain employees of South Bruce and perhaps our mayor and council do not respect us. Or are they going out of their way to confuse us?

As I have written in the past, I have great respect for all of our local newspapers. It is the editors of these local papers, as well their reporters, that keep us informed as to what is and has been happening in our community.

I am somewhat confused and frustrated that cards are being played (bid euchre) at the Mildmay Seniors Room and at the same time crokinole and cards are scheduled to commence on Tuesday, April 12 at the Town Hall in Teeswater.

You cannot put in local newspapers that cards and crokinole are starting on April l3 one week and then in the South Bruce Council News (Mildmay Town Crier, March 31) state it will be happening on Tuesdays (no date) and expect us all to figure that one out?

Boy, I am sure confused.

My wife Jo-Ann and I have been phoning around to correct this error (which we did not make)!  What is more important we want to engage ourselves with the Mildmay and area people because we want to play bid euchre in Mildmay on Tuesdays.

The Mildmay and area seniors are great people – they know their cards!

How does anyone on council and/or the mayor allow such blatant errors to happen in the first place? Does nobody care anymore? Why did you not question this terrible error or do we just say, “They are only seniors, why do we care about them?”

I am demanding a full explanation and an apology, as well as follow up by our mayor and all the councillors of South Bruce. As a senior, we should have your respect or is it going to be pushed under the carpet like the November 2021 Remembrance Day Service in Teeswater when you just passed the buck and put the responsibility onto someone else?

Will somebody please take some responsibility here?

I thought Teeswater and Mildmay people were supposed to get along – do not separate or divide us (as in the past) as this gross error would imply. Is this what NWMO has done to us all – that we just cannot concentrate and engage ourselves anymore? Neighbours hating neighbours, family members not speaking with each other, our churches are slowing closing and going up for sale because we can no longer get along!

Is it not time to say goodbye to the “ulcer” that is hurting us all in Grey, Bruce and Huron counties and go back to the days when we all respected each other? There were no “photo ops” handing out “our money” and pretending we are doing such a great service to the above-mentioned counties, knowing all the time it is “hush money” and it stinks!

Let us work together to get rid of what is keeping us separate and apart!

I loved Grey, Bruce and Huron County before the NWMO, didn’t you?
