I am writing to ask/complain about the sidewalks. I am a 35 year old man, who has called Fergus home for the last 3 years. I do not drive, and rely on walking as my mode of transportation. I tried contacting people about the sidewalks in town, and was given the royal run around. My first call was to the County snow removal and I was told it was not their responsibility and to call the city of Fergus. When I called the city, I was automatically put on an autodialer, with NO option for sidewalk maintnence. I was calling to complain about the sidewalk near St Andrew and St George, mind you they have improved it.

However the Sidewalks ARE STILL UNSAFE!!! There is at least an inch of snow and ice on all (but the downtown core ones), they are seldom salted or sanded, and the farther you get from the core the worse they are. Some residential sidewalks aren’t even done.

On Sunday March 2nd, 2014 I slipped and fell. Bruising my rotator cuff, hip and a rib (I saw an emerge doctor, and my chriopractor about this injury (a Doctor Jon Gatten)). Now this injury has cost me a day of work, as someone working a minumum wage job that hurts me finacially. I am certain I am not the only one with such a tale this winter. I have heard of elderly falling too. And what of parents carrying their infants? The risk to the public is incredible.

IS THERE A REASON THE TOWNSHIP OF FERGUS IS TRYING TO KILL IT’S CITIZENS? I was hoping that you bringing the pedistrians plight this winter would improve next winters sidewalk conditions.

Respectfully

Christopher Hopewell
