Hard work, same results for the Lucan Irish

LUCAN – Last year was tough for the Lucan Irish, and this season has been much of the same for the young Junior C team.

The Irish stuck in a close game against the Thamesford Trojans when they played against them on Nov. 4 at the Lucan Arena. 6-5 was the end result, as the Trojans got the win.

Noah Lambe scored his fifth of the season, and that opened the scoring in the first period. Rookie forward Ryan Marriage scored the team’s second goal of the game, putting them up 2-1.

Marriage’s goal was the first of his Provincial Junior Hockey League career. The 17 year old forward from Clinton has played in 14 games with the Irish this season and has posted two points, with the goal included.

Other goal scorers in the Irish’s loss to the Trojans were David Gysbers, Dillon Saunders who scored a goal on a penalty shot in the second period and the final goal was scored by Eric Guay.

Lucan headed to Lambeth on Sun., Nov. 5 to play the Lancers.

The Lancers, who are as strong as any team in the Yeck Division this season, as they possess the highest winning percentage in the entire division at .882. The Lancers know how to score goals too, and they’ve scored 104 goals through 17 games.

The Irish went up against the first place Lancers, and were handed a 9-2 loss. Brandon Jesson who once again returned from injury scored his second of the season, while Saunders added his team leading 12th goal for the Irish in their loss to Lambeth.

The Spitfires beat the Irish 4-1, handing the team their ninth consecutive loss of the season. The young Irish team has not been able to put a “W” in their win column since they played and defeated the Exeter Hawks 4-3 in their Oct. 13 meeting.

In the team’s game against the Spitfires only forward Jason Braun  scored for the Irish, while Saunders and Justin Ross drew the assists on the goal. Braun’s goal was his seventh of the season, half of his total from last season (14).

The team was in Exeter on Sat., Nov. 11 for a Remembrance match up, but came out on the losing end of a 5-2 Hawks win.

The penalty filled affair saw the Irish score one goal on 10 power play chances. The final score was 5-2 Hawks, and Jesson scored the team’s only two goals in the game.

Jones made 33 saves on 37 shots in his 13th appearance this season.
