HOWICK – According to a police release, members from the Huron County OPP Crime Unit are assisting the Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM) with their investigation into a fatal house fire that took place March 7 near Fordwich.
Around 7:20 p.m. the Howick Fire Department was dispatched to a house on fire on Fordwich Line, north of Fordwich. Upon arrival the fire department, who were first on the scene, found the addition of the house to be fully involved.
With mutual aid assistance from Minto Fire’s Clifford and Harriston stations, the fire was extinguished. The cause, origin, and circumstances leading up to the fire remain under investigation.
The police release stated that one adult occupant was unable to escape the fire and remains inside a portion of the home that was heavily damaged. Police along with the OFM remain on scene continuing with their investigation.
“The fire department’s thoughts are with the family and all of those who are impacted and hope the public will respect their privacy at this time,” Howick Fire Chief Shawn Edwards said in an interview Tuesday morning.
Additionally, Edwards would like to thank D’Arcey’s Sand and Gravel for the water supply, and the Huron County and Howick Roads department for keeping the roads passable for emergency responders.
