Dirt bike driver fails to stop for police

HURON EAST – A Huron East resident is facing a trio of driving related charges following an incident that took place near Walton.

On May 21 at approximately 10:34 a.m., police say a Huron County OPP officer was patrolling on Blyth Road when he observed a dirt bike operator pass him failing to wear a helmet. The officer activated his emergency equipment and signaled for the driver to stop; however, police say the driver immediately accelerated and took off in a field.

Following some investigation the officer was able to locate the driver at a residence in Walton. Upon confirming the identity of the driver, he was placed under arrest and was charged.

A 33-year-old from Huron East has been charged with flight from a peace officer, driving while under suspension, and failing to wear a proper helmet on motorcycle.

The accused has a court appearance scheduled for July 4 in Goderich.
