Deadline to renew driver’s licences, plate stickers fast approaching

ONTARIO – The deadline to renew driver’s licences, licence plate stickers, health cards and other products that expired on or after March 1, 2020 is fast approaching.

At the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ontario government announced that these items would not need to be renewed immediately, citing a desire to provide instant financial relief to residents as well as keep people from gathering at ServiceOntario locations.

Ontarians were encouraged, if able, to renew their documents online.

In September, the province announced the deadline to renew these documents will be Feb. 28, 2022.

People who have not renewed their products during the extended validity period will be required to pay the fee for previous years, in addition to the current year renewal fee.

To make it easier for people to renew their driver’s licences online, Ontario has temporarily waived requirements for people to renew their driver’s licences in person, including those for senior drivers. Eligible drivers can renew their driver’s licence online at, including those aged 80 and over.
