Crash leads to impaired charges against Harriston resident

GORRIE A Harriston resident is facing multiple charges following a crash earlier this month east of Gorrie.

On Saturday, Nov. 6 around 9:13 p.m., Huron OPP officers responded to a report of a vehicle fire on Harriston Road near Mud Lake Line. Police say as officers were on the way to the scene, they learned a second vehicle had come across the scene and crashed into the rear end of the vehicle that was on fire.

After arriving, officers spoke with the driver of the vehicle that crashed into the parked vehicle. The investigating officer noted the driver had consumes some alcohol was displaying signs of impairment.

The driver was arrested for impaired operation and taken to the OPP detachment in Teviotdale for breath tests. Police say two breath samples were provided to the intoxilizer technician, with both found to be above the legal limit.

The accused, 31-year-old Shane Irvine from Harriston, has been charged with impaired operation, operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (BAC) 80 plus, have care and control of a motor vehicle with open alcohol, and novice driver – BAC above zero.

The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for Dec. 13 in Goderich.
