COVID-19 case reported at Sacred Heart High School in Walkerton

WALKERTON – The Grey Bruce Health Unit (GBHU) is reporting a positive case of COVID-19 connected to Sacred Heart High School in Walkerton.

GBHU reported the case on Thursday night.

In a press release, GBHU stated that transmission to this case did not take place at Sacred Heart.

Public Health is notifying any close contacts of the individual, and they will be notified within the next 24 hours.

Officials noted that determining who is a close contact is a decision that can only be made by Public Health. Anyone not contacted by Public Health is not considered at risk, and GBHU says they need not take any additional steps including asymptomatic testing.

“Currently there are no outbreaks, that is evidence of transmission from person to person, in any schools or childcare centres in Grey Bruce. No bus routes of any schools are involved with this case,” stated officials.

Sacred Heart will remain open and buses will run as scheduled.

GBHU did not state in the release if the positive case was a student or a staff member of the school.
