Charges laid in crash that killed North Perth man

WEST PERTH – Perth County OPP have charged a 23-year-old man as a result of a fatal two-vehicle collision earlier this month that claimed the life of a North Perth man.

The crash happened at 1:45 p.m. on June at Perth Line 44 and Perth Line 180 near Brodhagen.

According to police, a pick-up truck was travelling westbound on Perth Line 44 and was struck by a second pick-up truck travelling northbound on Perth Road 180. A police investigation determined that the northbound truck failed to stop at the stop sign.

The driver of the westbound truck, 69-year-old Campbell Sanders of North Perth, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the northbound truck, 23-year-old Peter Hiebert of Alymer, was not injured.

Police announced on June 17 that Hiebert has been charged with careless driving causing death contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charge.
