It would be impossible to recount the modern history of the Listowel Banner without the perspective of its most prominent editor.

In the winter of 1866, when the Listowel Banner was founded, Listowel’s population was a mere 700, almost 10 times smaller than it is 155 years later. Two enterprising men, Thomas E. Hay and Joseph H. Hacking, pressed the first copies on Feb. 15, 1866.
