While it may have not been the end result they were looking for in terms of the 2023 Huron-Perth Athletics postseason, the key aspect is that girls’ varsity hockey is back at Listowel District Secondary School and the future looks bright.

A local man has a new hero, his granddaughter, who got him safely to the hospital after a softball-sized rock slammed through the windshield of his vehicle and shattered his face as he was driving on the 8th Line near his rural home on Feb. 13.

The series came down to the wire, but in the end the Milverton Four Wheel Drives were able to hang on for the Game 7 victory over the Shelburne Muskies and advance to the WOAA Senior A League final.

Maitland Conservation (MC) held its 2023 annual general meeting (AGM) on Feb. 15 at the Wroxeter Community Hall, welcoming new and past members, local dignitaries, and visitors in attendance to hear about upcoming plans and ongoing conservation efforts.

The Listowel District Secondary School (LDSS) girls’ varsity hockey team proved they are a contender for the Huron-Perth Athletics title following a decisive quarter-final victory last week, but the team’s toughest task comes in the form of the division’s top seed this week.

The YMCA has been a large part of Perth County’s community for over 150 years. During that time, many clubs were formed for kids and young adults.

On Feb. 9, Perth County’s Manager of Economic Development and Tourism, Meredith Forget, was awarded the Joseph A. Montgomery Economic Development Achievement Award, the province’s most prestigious award for the economic development profession.

This Saturday, the North Perth community will be joining together for a good cause; raising money to aid those experiencing homelessness.

At its Feb. 13 meeting, North Perth council members were presented with a report from staff in response to the first budget visioning session that took place on Jan. 11.

Listowel Branch 259 of the Royal Canadian Legion once again hosted a highly-successful Family Day carnival on Monday, Feb. 20 at Parkview Gardens. Many volunteers, including veterans, came together to make the free event happen, with huge throngs of people turning out to join in the fun.

The LDSS junior boys’ Lightning secured their spot in the Huron-Perth Athletics basketball championship this week, following a decisive victory over the Goderich DCI Vikings in the league semifinal on Monday.
