Cannabis use leads to impaired charge

NORTH PERTH – On June 18 at approximately 8:30 p.m., Perth County OPP officers were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere program on Line 87 and Road 165 in the Municipality of North Perth.

Upon speaking with a driver, the officer had reason to believe the driver had recently used cannabis. The officer conducted a standard field sobriety test on the driver, who was arrested and transported to a local operations centre for further testing.

As a result, Jesse McNichol, 18, of Gorrie, has been charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, and failure or refusal to comply with demand.

A 90-day administrative driver’s license suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment were initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.
