Bruce County Historical Society hosting 9/11 webinar

The Bruce County Historical Society has issued a Zoom invitation to everyone for 7 p.m. on Thursday to hear Captain (Retired) Percy Purpura share his thoughts on 9/11 and how those events shaped our world and Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan.

Capt. Purpura had a long and diverse military career which included the peacekeeping mission in Bosnia and Croatia, disaster relief operations in Pakistan and bringing Canadian casualties from Afghanistan home to Canada. To join: bit.ly/3tkT3wN

Remember to share your military photos on the Facebook page “Canadian Military Photos Lost and Found.”

Our table might have had the first winner at the Meat Draw last Saturday, but the luckiest table was the one by the hall door. Three times in a row they spun the number of someone else at that table, then had the nerve to do it again! And speaking of draws, the rest of us thank Rob F. and Dave McR. for being NSI (not signed in) on the daily and weekly member-only draws. They helped build those draws to triple digits!

Legion Member Ruth Brandt is participating in the Run4Health event on Sept. 26, with all proceeds towards a new mammography machine for the hospital.

“This 5km walk is such a worthy fundraiser,” said Ruth. “Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women and finding it early provides the best chance of treating it successfully. We are so fortunate to have a hospital in Walkerton, and it is so vital to have up-to-date equipment.”

Call Ruth at 519-881-0961 and she will walk you through donating online or will make arrangements to pick up your donation toward her fundraising goal for this very worthy cause.

Catch the Ace suspense was high on Sunday, as Amanda Whytock won $738 when her envelope revealed a spade. It was a Jack, so the Ace of Spades is still hiding. Check the posters at the Legion or at our vendors to see the numbers of the unopened envelopes. If you chose a number which has already been opened, the next lowest number will be opened instead.
