Brockton man charged with assault, possession of weapon

WELLINGTON NORTH – A Brockton man is one of two individuals charged by Wellington County OPP following an incident in Wellington North last week.

On Dec. 1 at about 8:45 pm, Wellington County OPP officers responded to a report of an assault on Concession 8 in Wellington North.

“It was reported that three occupants were travelling in a vehicle when an altercation occurred which resulted in one of the individuals being assaulted with a weapon and left on the side of the road while the other two fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle,” police stated in a Dec. 3 press release.

“Officers located the vehicle in the ditch along with one of the suspects and they were placed under arrest. A second suspect was located as short distance away by the OPP Canine and placed under arrest.”

Police say the victim attended a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Bayley Lemkay, 36, of Cambridge, was charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon, theft over $5,000, failing to comply with an undertaking and five counts of driving while prohibited.

Larry Ward, 44, of Brockton, was charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon and theft over $5,000.

Lemkay and Ward were held for a bail hearing.
