The Listowel Cyclones somewhat salvaged what had been an otherwise dismal start to 2023, when the junior club took a pair of wins from the Caledon Bombers in decisive fashion last weekend.

Points are at a premium with the 2022-23 PJHL regular season beginning to wind down, and the Wingham Ironmen picked up four they desperately needed over the weekend to maintain pace with the teams they’re chasing in the North Pollock Division standings.

The Wingham Ironmen defense corps was dialled in on Sunday afternoon at the North Huron Wescast Community Complex, limiting the visiting Hanover Barons to 21 shots en route to a 4-1 win for the home side.

Supporters, family and friends were out in full force for ‘Angtravaganza’ and Listowel’s Ang Stratton at Between The Lines Sports Campus and the Listowel Squash Courts on Jan. 21, raising money for the local single mother who is currently battling Stage 4 breast cancer.

Hockey Day in Howick returned in fine fashion on Saturday, Jan. 21 at the Howick Community Centre, where 11 teams within the Howick and Upper Maitland Mustangs organizations put their skills on display for another exciting event that received tremendous spectator support.

The Milverton 4 Wheel Drives senior hockey organization hosted a special alumni event on Jan. 21 at the Perth East Recreation Complex, with a pair of games featuring past players 35+ and 45+. The well-attended event raised an impressive $3,205 for the Barney Dale Memorial Fund.

As the COVID-19 pandemic continued to adversely affect countless local businesses economically last year, Listowel Squash Courts owner Alan McArthur saw an opportunity to lend a helping hand and generate some additional income for those hit hardest.

Following a successful bottle drive earlier this month, parents and coaches of the Listowel U13 LL1 Cyclones left it up to the boys for what they wanted to do with the money.
