The ongoing Memorial Arena Park (MAP59) fundraising campaign received another big boost last week, when Royal Canadian Legion Branch 259 in Listowel pledged $20,000 to the project.

The lights were bright at the Kerr Complex on Sunday for Skate Wallace’s presentation of ‘Movie Musicals,’ and every skater in the organization came through for an entertaining afternoon showcasing skill and ability.

Certainly in many Listowel hockey circles and beyond, the annual Gord Hymers U11 Tournament is as highly anticipated as the Silver Stick or OMHA playoffs.

Andrea Charest has watched It Takes A Village significantly evolve over its years of operation in downtown Listowel, and so it’s only appropriate that its primary awareness and fundraising initiative evolves as well.

After occupying the fourth and fifth spots in the PJHL North Pollock Division standings for a good portion of the 2022-23 campaign, it will indeed be the Wingham Ironmen and Kincardine Bulldogs facing off in the postseason when the first round gets underway this weekend.

The Milverton Four Wheel Drives have grabbed an early series lead in their WOAA Senior A championship bout with the Shallow Lake Crushers.

Only five days removed from a Huron-Perth Athletics finals appearance, the Listowel District Secondary School junior boys’ basketball squad found itself in contention for a WOSSAA ‘AA’ regional championship on Feb. 27.

While it may have not been the end result they were looking for in terms of the 2023 Huron-Perth Athletics postseason, the key aspect is that girls’ varsity hockey is back at Listowel District Secondary School and the future looks bright.

The Wingham Ironmen have had their struggles against the last-place Goderich Flyers at times throughout the 2022-23 PJHL campaign, but those were long forgotten after Saturday night.

The F.E. Madill girls finished at the top of the Huron-Perth standings at the end of the regional varsity hockey regular season, and at the top is where they remained after the Mustangs ran the table during the 2023 high school postseason.

The series came down to the wire, but in the end the Milverton Four Wheel Drives were able to hang on for the Game 7 victory over the Shelburne Muskies and advance to the WOAA Senior A League final.

The Durham Thundercats were swept out of the 2023 WOAA Senior AA playoffs on Feb. 17, but the local squad didn’t go down without a fight.

The F.E. Madill boys’ basketball squads were unable to hold off powerhouse Stratford District Secondary School in both the junior and senior Huron-Perth brackets last week, suffering a pair of semifinal defeats.
